iMAR iCORUS Strapdown Airborne Gravimeter

New-Sense Geophysics uses iMAR’s iCORUS, a strapdown airborne gravimeter designed for high-precision measurement of gravity disturbances from both helicopter and fixed-wing platforms. iCORUS combines dedicated high-performance gyroscopes and accelerometers with an advanced GNSS engine and its own signal acquisition and processing. Alongside the gravity measurements, it records the inertial navigation and motion data needed for accurate gravity reduction. As a strapdown system it needs no mechanically stabilized platform, which makes it robust and well suited to survey operations in rugged and remote terrain.

Key Features of the iMAR iCORUS Gravimeter:

  1. Optimized for Airborne Gravimetry: iCORUS provides reliable, high-precision measurements of the gravity disturbance and supports fully unattended operation during survey flights.
  2. Integrated Inertial Navigation (PNT): Built on iMAR’s proven iNAT architecture, iCORUS integrates high-resolution gyroscopes, reference accelerometers and an advanced GNSS engine. It delivers Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) data and gyro compassing.
  3. Precise Motion and Attitude Data:The system continuously records position, velocity, attitude, heading, angular rates and accelerations. This allows aircraft motion and the Eötvös effect to be corrected rigorously, and also provides real-time data for guidance and stabilization.
  4. On-Board Data Storage and Client Ownership:128 GB of non-volatile memory stores all raw sensor data on board. The Client owns the complete raw dataset and keeps full control over processing and analysis.
  5. Dedicated Processing Workflow: iCORUS data are processed in iMAR’s iPosCAL-GRAV software, which handles automated survey line detection, crossover statistics and network adjustment. Levelling, terrain, free-air and Bouguer corrections are then completed in Geosoft Oasis montaj.
  6. Continuous Development:A miniaturized version is in development, with reduced weight, smaller dimensions and lower power consumption, further extending the range of aircraft the system can be installed on.
